Bright red for Valentine's Day

Our ward threw an amazing Valentine's party- dinner at Ruby River Steakhouse with dancing and a contest for the most romantic proposal story. Anyone who thought their proposal story fit for the competition submitted it in writing ahead of time. Trevor thought it would be funny to submit a made-up proposal story (an obviously made-up proposal story) and I thought it would be funny to submit the truth (and make it sound pretty pitiful). We were both thoroughly embarrassed when they read both of ours out loud. (No, we didn't win.) I thought I would share the love:

Trevor: Here's my version--if Emily's version is different (more boring), believe mine.
On Valentine's Day, which happened to fall on June 1st (Emily's birthday), I took her to the Cinderella Castle at Disneyland. She was totally unsuspecting, and I swooped her off her feet and up the spiral staircase to the highest spire, where I had hidden her 7 carat diamond ring at the top. I had hired Whitney Houston to be up there, and she was singing "I Will Always Love You" with choreographed fireworks. It was pretty much the best. She said yes.

Emily: Walmart ring in the driveway.

Despite the embarrassment, we had a really good Valentine's Day.

It's a tough life

...but somebody's got to be the mother of this baby.

{It was one of those click pens. She's very clever.}

Quick update: Cassie now has 5 1/2 teeth (two on bottom, three on top, and one more about to break through) and is sitting up like a champ. She doesn't see the point in crawling, so she just rolls around when she wants to get somewhere. That and she's not coordinated enough to crawl. You can't really tell from these pictures, but she does have more hair. Boy, we love her.

Feelin' Crafty

My friend Katie inspired me to replace Cassie's old "curtains." (see below) She found great deals on curtains in the clearance section at Bed Bath and Beyond, so I decided to try my luck there. I discovered that the standard length of a curtain is 84", more than double the length of the window I needed to cover. I realized if I bought two curtains, cut them in half, and hemmed them up, I could use both ends for curtains: one set for Cassie's room and one for ours. I found some thick cotton tab-top curtains, just the right color green for Cassie's room. I'm quite pleased with the deal I got. They were originally $20 each, and I bought them for $7 each. It definitely would have cost me more if I had bought the fabric alone and done all the sewing myself...and they would probably have looked horrendous (sewing is not my forte).

I borrowed a sewing machine from a friend in the ward, bought thread (forgot to take the curtains with me...not quite the right color...oops), and had both sets finished in about 2 hours. The thread ended up looking fine and the curtains were easy to hang up on the plain white tension rods I bought.This picture makes the color look like it clashes with our quilt, but it looks fine in person. My only dilemma now is what to do with the curtains. They look a little squashed behind our headboard, but tying them to the side looks a little silly because they're quite stiff. Any ideas?

I also made a fabric/ribbon bulletin board for Cassie's room. It cost more than I expected and actually took a lot of time to finish. And even though it isn't perfect, I think it will last a long time and will be fun for Cassie to have in her room as she grows up.
